about

This weeks assignment combined some of my favorite things: making music out of field recordings, and drinking tea.

Considering the assignment, and my recent decision to quit drinking coffee, I used this as an excuse to make a cup of Earl Grey.

I recorded two tracks: the sound of the water boiling, and the sound of the whistle from the lid to the pot (sounds much like a tea pot whistle.

I made a copy of the water boiling sound and one of those tracks I lowered the pitch and elevated the bass level to create a good gargle effect. For the whistle I did a paul stretch, and altered the pitch (using a time track and the envelope tool in Audacity). I then chopped it up by generating silence in patches. The track ends with a climax of the whistle.

I then added in audio of an old weather alert for Southern Maine, because the something about the track as it is made me think of severe weather. I cut it up, added echo to key parts, and panned sections into left and right channel
