For this one I employed databending, which is something I typically do with the images I use on Soundcloud. I first opened the image in GIMP to export it as a bmp, then I opened both the jpg and bmp in Audacity, using the import raw data option. For the jpg file I added a Paul stretch, but the bmp I just looped.
I then used a program on my windows phone called synth free, which is a lot like the Tone Matrix you can find online for free. I plugged my phone into my computer with an 1/8' cable and recorded as I drew out on the screen a representation of the blacked out words on the image.
I layered in some extracts from an interview with Snowden that I found on youtube.
